Project Summary

Oriental Bittersweet in North Carolina: A Controversy

Oriental Bittersweet
In 2004, as part of its Regional Invasive Plant project, SAIN produced a map showing where oriental bittersweet (Celastrus orbiculatus) has been found to occur in several surveys of mountainous western North Carolina. Information on the map was used in a meeting held to resolve a disagreement between natural resource managers and craft makers who use the vine for wreaths and floral arrangements.
